The statement from the government comes just a couple of hours after Luis Rubiales announced that he will not resign after the scandalous kiss in connection with the World Cup gold celebrations.
Victor Francos, chairman of Spain’s sports council, says the government wants to suspend Rubiales, and that in that case it is a decision for the sports court to make. Francos also pointed out that the case may be handled as a criminal case.
— Rubiales has not lived up to what the players, the government or society expected. Therefore, we have filed a complaint, says Francos.
It was after Spain defeated England in the World Cup final on Sunday, taking the country’s first World Cup gold on the women’s side, that Rubiales embraced and kissed World Cup hero Jenni Hermoso on the mouth.
