The shooting is finished, Dune: Part Two is actually nothing in the way – except the biggest Hollywood crisis in years. That’s why the science fiction blockbuster is based on the novel by Frank Herbert postponed by several months. This year we have to do without Dune.

This is the new theatrical release of Dune 2

The sci-fi adventure starring Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya was originally scheduled to launch in Germany on November 2nd of this year. Studio Legendary has now postponed the film to March. In the USA Dune 2 launches on March 15, 2024, as Variety reports. March 14th would be conceivable for Germany.

That’s why the science fiction film is being postponed

With the postponement, the studio wants to prevent that the million-dollar blockbuster hits theaters without celebrity endorsement. The background is the ongoing strikes by the US actors’ and screenwriters’ unions, who are campaigning, among other things, for fairer pay for low-income earners.

The production of Dune 2 is not directly affected by the walkout as both the script and filming have been completed. However, actors cannot promote the film as long as their union has called for a strike. This means stars like Zendaya are banned from red carpet appearances, interviews, visits to talk shows and the like.

Why the MCU could benefit from the Dune 2 shift

Sci-fi fans will have to wait longer for a reunion with Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet), the Sandworms of Arrakis, and an introduction to the bald Austin Butler.

For other blockbusters, that might just come in handy. Because with the departure of Dune 2 free IMAX screens. The Marvel Cinematic Universe blockbuster The Marvels could grab the halls and increase its box office profits through the format with higher ticket prices, as is already being speculated. The Marvels will start in German cinemas on November 8, 2023.
