Volkswagen reorganizes chip supply opens to direct negotiations

(Finance) – The Volkswagen Group is reorganizing the supply of electronic components e semiconductors to guarantee long-term supplies and ensure a leadership position in terms of technology and competitiveness. In this sense, the German car manufacturer has opened up the possibility of direct negotiations for the supply of chips with global players such as NXP, Infineon and Renesas.

The Group has developed a new strategy for supply of electronic parts and components. In the pastTier 1 suppliers of electronic components, such as control units, had a certain margin of discretionWhile in the futurethey will have to coordinate with the group to define which semiconductors and other electronic products to manufacture.

“A high degree of transparency in the semiconductor value chain allows us to better determine the global demand and availability of these components,” explains the administrator Dirk Grosse-Loheidepurchasing manager of Volkswagen Passenger Cars, who adds “risk management in the future will extend to the level of individual electronic components and will help us to identify bottlenecks early and how to avoid them”.

A Semiconductor Sourcing Committee (SSC) was also specifically set up to extend this approach to all the Group’s brands, made up of representatives of the procurement and development departments of all brands and from CARIAD.
