The expansion of the Brics group has already caused concern in the West, as Brics includes China and Russia, among others.

The Brics countries have held their most important meeting for years in Johannesburg, South Africa. The organization currently includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

The Brics countries see themselves as challengers to the G7 group of rich countries in particular, and their importance in a divided world is growing.

Today, at its summit, the group decided to invite Saudi Arabia, Iran, Ethiopia, Egypt, Argentina and the United Arab Emirates as new members of the Brics alliance.

The expansion of the Brics group has already raised concerns in the West. Also the President of the Republic Sauli Niinistö spoke on the subject at the Ambassadors’ Day on Tuesday.

– We are now looking for and building a counterforce in the West. And this aspiration also has appeal. Many countries would like to join the Brics group, President Niinistö stated.

More than twenty countries have announced that they want to become members of the organization and even more have shown at least an interest.

The Brics countries already include more than 40 percent of the world’s population and their share of the world economy is larger than the entire EU.
