Perseus Karlström chases a medal in the World Athletics Championships

Karlström kept up well in the tight pack initially, even though he was not primarily in the lead.

40 minutes into the race, Karlström made it to the front together with the Chinese Xianghong He and the Spaniard Alvaro Martin and picked up the pace considerably. After an hour, the Frenchman Aurélien Quinion made a move and broke away from the pack.

Shortly thereafter, Karlström received a red card for a stretched knee.

– Ominous, said TV4’s expert Ato Ibáñez at the time, and there was concern about the rest of the race.

At first the red card meant it for Karlström, who found it more difficult to keep up with the tight pack.

– The warning may be some kind of indication that it is not correct. It is very rare to see red cards on him at all, says Ibáñez.

The race is ongoing, the text is updated as it goes.
