The new pension reform measures concerning pensions for mothers will be applied from September 1, 2023. A decree recently published in the Official Journal details the outlines of what will change.
The application of the new measures of the pension reform for mothers is gradually taking shape. A text decreepublished this Tuesday, August 22, 2023 in the Official newspaperdetails the contours of the surcharge on retirement pensions for certain parents. This new device will be applicable from 1 September 2023, like the rest of the implementing decrees for the pension reform. Concretely, what will change for parents, and in particular mothers who take maternity leave or child-raising leave?
A bonus of up to 5% on the basic pension for mothers
With this new pension reform, adopted on March 20, 2023, several things are changing for the mothers’ retreatstarting with a bonus on their pension. In fact, women with children who have accumulated 43 years of contributions before the legal retirement age of 64 will be able to benefit from a premium on their basic pension. This premium will be 1.25% per additional quarter contributed between the ages of 63 and 64, and may reach 5% over an entire year. To this is added the taking into account of at least one quarter of increase in duration of insurance or bonus for maternity, adoption or education of the child.
THE fathers are also affected by this pension surcharge. In addition, parents of three or more children exercising a liberal profession, as well as lawyers, will also be able to obtain a pension increase of around 10%, details the government on the Public Life website.
Maternity leave valued for retirement
Maternity leave and parental leave mark a significant break in the career of mothers. The pension reform thus provides for take into account maternity leave, started before January 1, 2012, in the calculation of the retirement pension. This calculation will be based on the daily maternity insurance allowances in the base salary. The objective being to be able to revalue the pension level again.
Article 4 of the decree specifies, however, that this flat-rate taking into account of the compensation received is “subject to the condition that the insured justifies, during the twelve months preceding the birth, affiliation to social insurance under the general scheme”.
