One of the best sci-fi movies of the millennium, which 13 years later got a series that went under completely

In the 2000s Steven Spielberg had one to date impressive sci-fi run, in which he produced three very different pinnacles of the genre: the modern Pinocchio AI – Artificial Intelligence, the invasion-trauma War of the Worlds, and in between the sci-fi thriller Minority Report. The latter is on TV today and anyone who has wondered how the story will continue from the first sighting will find out at their own risk in a series.

Tom Cruise can prevent crime in Minority Report (he thinks)

The sci-fi film is based on a story by Philip K. Dick and is set in the year 2054. Tom Cruise plays John Anderton, who takes part in a crime prediction pilot after his son is kidnapped. With the help of the so-called Precogs (including Samantha Morton). future perpetrators tracked down and put into a coma. When Anderton discovers bugs in the system and gets himself on the wanted list, he begins to doubt the pure intentions behind the program.

Equipped with a realistic vision of the future, the stylish play of light and shadow by cameraman Janusz Kaminski and fast-paced car chases, Minority Report is one of the entertaining sci-fi blockbusters of its era. However, the dystopian serious core of his vision for the future is not lost underneath. Spielberg made an adult blockbuster in the best sense of the word with a Hitchcock touch, which doesn’t spread its versatile crime story for a second too long.

Sci-Fi series continued the story of the film

As a result, there was no pressing reason for Minority Report to continue. In 2015, Spielberg’s production company Amblin, along with Paramount and Fox, tried it anyway. The production version was (imaginatively) christened Minority Report. She takes place 11 years after the events of the film and is about a Precog (Stark Sands from Inside Llewyn Davis) who wants to prevent crime on his own.

Max Borenstein’s series pilot (Godzilla vs. Kong) was directed by The Menu and Game of Thrones director Mark Mylod, but that didn’t help much. Minority Report failed the critics and the audience. Because of poor ratings, the Fox broadcaster shortened the 13 ordered episodes to 10 and discontinued the series.
