Fewer British musicians are playing in Europe

It is the organization Society of Musicians that has conducted a survey among 400 musicians, and 47.4 percent state that they no longer play as much outside the UK. 27.8 percent state that they no longer work in Europe at all, write NME.

40 percent have had European gigs canceled and an almost equal percentage have been forced to turn down jobs abroad.

Society of Musicians chief executive Deborah Annetts holds the British government responsible for the situation.

— British music is a success story and we are proud of it. The creative industries are a potential source of growth but the government turns a blind eye to it. They could have tackled many of the music sector’s challenges and made Brexit work, but have chosen not to, she says according to the newspaper.

In 2021, the UK government was criticized for failing to negotiate a visa-free Brexit deal for musicians wanting to play abroad.
