They top this year’s “Summer in P1”

Finnish President Sauli Niinistö concluded this year’s edition of “Summer in P1” on Sunday. Sveriges Radio states that podcast listening is higher than ever. At the same time, the program format from 1959 continues to stand strong in live broadcasting.

– It fascinates me that, for example, an influencer like Maja Nilsson Lindelöf gets such a large audience when the program is broadcast on the radio. You could imagine that influencers already have a large audience on their own platforms, says program manager Bibi Rödöö.

Levengood about the mother

Maja Nilsson Lindelöf’s program is the third most listened to linearly, but the list is topped by the presenter Mark Levengood. It is the Finnish-Swedish profile’s seventh “Summer” since 1993.

– His story about his mother’s alcoholism is partly night black and partly entertaining in a masterful way. He tells a story in different keys, it’s a program where you both laugh and shed a tear when you listen, says Bibi Rödöö.

A total of just over 3.2 million people have listened to the broadcasts in P1 at some point during the summer.

– It’s fantastic that so many people are listening, even if we don’t focus on maximizing listening every day. We want to achieve a breadth and sometimes it can be a narrow topic or a person that not many people know. That’s what “Summer in P1” is all about – and this year we really went out with the flag flying high. The Finnish flag then, says Bibi Rödöö.

Debate on reviews

At the same time, a minor debate has been revived about whether it is really ethical for the “Summer” programs to be reviewed in the media, when it is about deeply personal stories.

– It’s funny that “Summer” is being noticed, but sometimes it’s a bit ignorant and weak opinion about the person. It’s tough to be reviewed as if you were a professional radio speaker, I usually advise them not to read. A tacky wording sticks in the memory, and then it doesn’t help with positive reviews from the listeners. I think you can let the programs speak for themselves.
