Eight years ago, a guardian of the Destiny 2 community made a daring thesis on Reddit that received little attention. But now, after all these years, his suspicion is proving to be true. The Guardian was right, and the community feels this is the ultimate “I told you so.”
Which story is it exactly? Each week, Guardians can play the repeatable quest Veil Containment in Destiny 2. It is available after completing the Lightfall campaign and reveals more extremely interesting story details in the form of audio recordings.
And this is exactly where the mysterious keeper comes into play. Because his daring thesis on Maya Sundaresh hit the mark eight years ago.
Spoiler alert: The following article will reveal story details about Destiny 2 Lightfall and the Shroud Containment activity. So read on from here if you haven’t played the mission yet and want to experience the in-game surprise for yourself.
Unnoticed Reddit thread hits the mark
This is what the Guardian predicted: The Guardian in question had already drawn the right conclusions from some lore details of the Destiny story at the time so well that he unknowingly spoiled the finale of “Veil Containment” in Lightfall, which took place eight years later.
Maya? lakshmi? – The names were both known in the Destiny universe.
Another item that then reinforced his theory was a grimoire entry about Maya Sundaresh and her involvement in researching the Vex simulations, as well as references to the Ishtar Collective.
Destiny 2 hides an important location in Lightfall that only veterans will recognize
After putting all this together, the Guardian wondered, “Could this group of scientists be the nucleus of the war cult of the future?” And would it be possible that Maya Sundaresh later took the name “Lakshmi”?”
At that time still a daring thesis. Still, he featured her on the Destiny Reddit, writing, “I think Lakshmi-2 and Maya Sundaresh could be the same person.”
The idea fell into oblivion: Over the years, the Keeper’s account has been deleted. Although his idea remained online, it was hardly noticed.
However, when the weekly “veil containment” in Lightfall dropped the big bombshell in August 2023, a few players interested in lore remembered that there was someone who was actually right about everything and commented on the post.
Under this video, the “story prophet” from back then even reported back under the nickname caseyl5001, whose account was deleted and said:
This is my contribution! I feel so validated right now. I deleted this account and regretted it. […] I remember several comments saying it was unlikely as the names were very common and it was probably just a coincidence.
commented caseyl5001 under Lucky10PP’s video
Others are more skeptical like Rascal0302. He comments, “Honestly, he didn’t anticipate it, Bungie saw it and just copied it.”
And yet his startling prediction leaves more than just a sense of confirmation. It also shows the unexpected and deep connections that can exist in the depths of the Destiny universe.
Too much coincidence to not be intentional
Has Bungie Always Known Everything? This is arguably one of the most intriguing questions arising from this revelation of the Guardian’s predictive theory.
As with Savathun in The Witch Queen DLC, Lightfall begs the question: “When Destiny launched, did the Bungie Narrative Team have the expansive saga of Light and Darkness at its core, with the Veil as part of the Traveler?” already worked out?”
Some say no. Because in 2017 Luke Smith, then game director of Destiny 2, openly admitted: “Yes, we had no idea what the darkness was actually supposed to be.”
Maybe not in the dark. Still, it’s hard to imagine that Bungie didn’t have at least a glimpse of where the journey of Light and Darkness was basically headed.
Some players now believe that Bungie may have even hidden the veil in a 2017 cutscene during the Red Battle campaign.
However, there are different interpretations here:
Make up your own mind: We have included the short cutscene from “The Red Battle” here again. It shows a lost civilization, the pyramid ships and the said representation. Look closely at minute 00:53.
In other places in Destiny 2, too, some guardians are now noticing things that visualize the current story well and that you have run past over and over again in the game.
It could all be coincidence. But maybe it’s too much of a coincidence not to be intentional.
It seems more and more that Bungie knew the thread of the story even then and used many subtle little ways to prepare players for the upcoming reveal.
What’s next? On August 22nd from 18:00 there will be the first information about the last DLC “The Final Form” and then the Guardians will finally uncover the great mystery of what it looks like inside the Traveler in 2024. And more importantly, you will meet an old friend again.
What do you think of the Guardian’s startling prediction? Do you think Bungie has always planned and built these many details in the game so that now, at the end of the saga, the Guardians will discover these untold connections in the Destiny universe? And is it the veil in the Red Battle video or not? Let us know how you see it in the comments.
