Meg 2: The Deep with Jason Statham has been in cinemas since the beginning of August and, after the first Meg from five years ago, sends the action star back into battle against several basking sharks from prehistoric times.
In the course of the year, the new sci-fi monster film will also be released on disc for home cinema and can already be found on Amazon on Blu-ray *, in 4K with Blu-ray * as well as on DVD * to be pre-ordered. A Limited 4K Steelbook * is also available.
That’s what Meg 2: The Deep is about
Four years after Jonas Taylor (Jason Statham) survived his first encounter with a supposedly extinct prehistoric megalodon, the deep sea diver and environmental activist leads a research team tasked with venturing into the underexplored depths of the ocean.
However, a profit-seeking mining company thwarts the expedition and suddenly they all find themselves face to face with several prehistoric giant sharks that are larger than anything they have ever seen before. A tough fight for survival ensues, in which, of course, not everyone makes it back to the surface in one piece.
Is Meg 2: The Deep worth it?
At FILMSTARTS, the film came up well with the critics 2 out of 5 stars rather mediocre given the ironically less threatening sharks in bulk, predictable twists and “rarely stupid” villains. The Moviepilot community currently has a much more positive rating of 5.7 out of 10 points.
According to our assessment, Meg 2 is worthwhile “primarily for hardcore Jason Statham fans and guppy breeders“. Monster movie fans should still be able to add home theater editions to their collections with the new sci-fi flick starring Jason Statham and his battle with the basking sharks.
