Few can measure up Jan-Ove Waldners incredible talent and huge popularity. So many Swedes who grew up with the great JO as their childhood idol and he made an entire country crazy about table tennis during the 80s and 90s.
Icon Waldner
Waldner can look back on an absolutely unparalleled sports career that lasted for several decades at the absolute top of the world. With his ping pong rack and unique ball sense, the Swede conquered the world from the age of 16 and a bit over the 40-year mark.

He was involved in tearing down the Great Wall of China and transforming little Sweden into a major power in table tennis. In total, there were six World Cup golds, eleven European Championship golds, double World Cup titles and then the greatest success of them all – namely the unforgettable Olympic gold in Barcelona 1992.

JO on bush mood
But even these days the “Evergreen Tree”, as he is called in China, cannot let go of his rack and despite being almost 60 years old, he is still playing. Mostly for fun as there are often video footage from various events where Jan-Ove Waldner sets up for a ping pong match.

Now there has been a new such film where JO is in a real bush mood and exposes his poor opponent to one trick after another, see the video below.

Everyone absolutely loves to see the table tennis icon ‘in action’ again and is amused by the totally bewildered look on his opponent’s face when he fails to hit the ball, watch the video below.
