Iceland’s Katrín Hall took over as artistic director of Gothenburg Opera’s dance company in autumn 2016.
She herself comes from a background as both dancer and choreographer, including for music videos for artists such as Shakira.
“We strive to break new ground and be unpredictable – a challenge that means hard work every day. But to be associated with these unique artists that the dancers are – and the team around them – makes this effort a pure pleasure and I am incredibly happy over the trust to lead the work for another four years,” says Katrín Hall in a press release.
German Henning Ruhe began his position as artistic director of opera and drama in the summer of 2020.
Before that he had been operational director of the artistic activities at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich and director at the State Opera in Berlin, Théatre du Chatelet in Paris and at IMG Artists in New York.
“After three years, I have only had time to start my mission and to be able to build on our vision for another four years is fantastic fun,” says Henning Ruhe in the press release, adding that he looks forward to continuing to create touching and inspiring art together with his colleagues and to develop and strengthen Gothenburg Opera’s role in the city, the region and the world.
