The road project, which was put into practice to provide easy access to the village of Pile, located on the Green Line under UN control of the TRNC, was tried to be prevented by the UN Peacekeeping Force soldiers from the morning hours.
TENSION ENDED
The tensions came to an end as the TRNC security forces pushed the UN Peacekeepers back from the TRNC territory on the Green Line. TRNC officials reported that Peace Corps soldiers left the area and road construction works were started.
The authorities stated that the security of the road construction works will be ensured by the police and that UN personnel and vehicles will not be allowed to enter the route where the road will pass.
“THE PROJECT WILL NOT BE BACK”
Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu stated in a written statement that the Pile-Yiğitler Yolu Project was prepared for extremely humane purposes and without any ill-will and said, “This is to make the life of the Turkish Cypriot people, who were left at the mercy of the Greek Cypriots and the British bases, easier. a project has been made.” used the phrase.
Emphasizing that the TRNC has no intention of stealing land from somewhere, Ertuğruloğlu said, “There will be no turning back from the Pile-Yiğitler Yolu Project. This project is a purely humanitarian project and does not contain any ulterior motives. We are facing a conspiracy. The UN should not try to hinder us. We will build this road. It’s over. We won’t back down from our resolve.” made its assessment.
Ertuğruloğlu emphasized that the UN Peacekeeping Force is not a Turkish-friendly organization and stated that they will not be tricked as the TRNC.
WHAT HAPPENED?
UN Peacekeeping Force soldiers placed concrete blocks in the area where the project will start from the morning hours to prevent the Pile-Yiğitler Road Project.
UN Peacekeeping Force soldiers, who wanted to block the authorities of the Turkish side and their road construction vehicles, also parked their vehicles on the territory of the TRNC.
The TRNC security forces, on the other hand, removed the vehicles belonging to the UN from the region with the help of a dozer.
