The national skiing team was hit by a huge chaos.
Now the biathlete Elvira Öberg sends a cheeky dick.
– We have a sense of security in the group and in each other, which I think is greater than in the cross-country skiers, she tells news agency TT.
The ski national team’s last training camp in Torsby had to be canceled prematurely after as many as six national team skiers fell ill. Therefore, all the cross-country skiers were forced to go home from the pre-season camp, which was a big failure.
Öberg’s glint
The sports doctor Per Anderssonwho was the national team doctor in the national ski team and within the SOK, now claims that the cross-country team suffers worse from diseases than other winter athletes, including biathlon.
– I am struck by the fact that there are cultural differences between the sports. I perceive it as the biathletes not having as much focus on infections as the cross-country skiers. The biathletes have less concern linked to illness, he tells news agency TT.
– It is important to have a balance between how careful you are and not to create a culture that causes you to worry about diseases and which then becomes harmful to sports performance.

The biathlon star Elvira Öberg agree with the statement that the biathletes have a much more relaxed attitude when it comes to illness than the cross-country skiers.

Doctor’s word
The calmer attitude also benefits how you perform during the season, thinks little sister Öberg.
– We are secure in ourselves and in the group. We know each other well and have a great respect for each other. We have a sense of security in the group and in each other, which I think is greater than in the cross-country skiers, she tells the news agency.

The doctor Per Andersson continues his reasoning and says that there is a risk in being far too cautious with diseases.
– Somewhere there is a limit to how careful one must be in order to reduce the number of sick people. If you are not exposed to anything, it probably affects the immune system negatively, he says in the interview.
– I have reflected that cross-country skiers are more often sicker than biathletes, marathon runners and cyclists. I also reflected on this during my time as a doctor in the national cross-country skiing team. It has neither gotten better nor worse. I do not know why.
