Miyazaki’s final film opens two film festivals

It will also be the film’s European premiere, as it will open the film festival in Toronto two weeks before that. The film was released in Japan in mid-July.

The film is about a grieving boy who discovers an abandoned tower in his new town and finds inside a fantastic world with a talking gray heron.

Miyazaki has been working on the film since 2016 and in an interview in 2017 he said that the film is based on his favorite book from childhood: Genzaburo Yoshino’s “How do you live?”, in Japanese “Kimitachi wa dou ikiru ka?”.

He won an Oscar for Best Animated Feature with his international hit “Spirited Away” in 2001 and received an Honorary Oscar for his film work in 2014.

During the film festival in San Sebastián, Spanish film star Javier Bardem will also receive an award for his work in film.
