100 years of Warner Bros.: This Blu-ray box set is packed with blockbusters in 4K
Steven Spielberg, Christopher Nolan, Martin Scorsese, Frank Darabont—Warner Bros. really pulls off the crème de la crème here. You can look forward to the following blockbusters:
Ready Player One – IMDb Rating: 7.4/10
Argo – IMDb Rating 7.7/10
Mad Max: Fury Road – IMDb Rating 8.1/10
Relentless – IMDb Rating 8.2/10
Joker – IMDb Rating 8.4/10
The Green Mile – IMDb Rating 8.6/10
Matrix – IMDb Rating 8.7/10
Interstellar – IMDb rating 8.7/10
GoodFellas – IMDb rating 8.7/10
Inception – IMDb Rating 8.8/10
You can see that none of the films were rated less than 7 out of 10 points. Most are even over 8 points, which is a very high value in the Internet Movie Database. The highest rated film of all time has 9.3 out of 10 points there. Can you guess which movie this is? It is another film by Frank Darabont that is not represented in this collection.
The author’s personal favorites are…
Interstellar: Possibly the best sci-fi film of all time. Hardly any other film manages to draw such a realistic picture of the future while at the same time creating bombastic images and telling a profoundly moving story at the same time. This is great cinema at the highest level. Not to forget that Hans Zimmer provides one of his most intensive musical accompaniments here and thus gives the enormous scope of the story a fitting foundation.
Inception: Four Oscars and just as many nominations speak for themselves. The very idea of a story about penetrating other people’s dreams is ingenious and the typical Nolan intricate plot with several simultaneously running levels balances so perfectly on the border of mental overstrain that it is a real joy. This is what smart blockbuster cinema should look like.
Mad Max: Fury Road: Unlike Inception, the plot of George Miller’s post-apocalypse mega-cracker fits on a handkerchief, though it does have its carrying moments. But that doesn’t detract from the great cinema fun. Mad Max: Fury Road is a gigantic visual board that will get your adrenaline pumping with its breakneck car chases and driving drum soundtrack.
The production design is some of the best I’ve seen (flamethrower guitar!) and the lead duo, Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron, deliver an incredibly riveting performance. More blockbuster is not possible.
