The opening of the Finnish women’s national team’s European Championship against Slovakia is just over an hour away. Finland opens its tournament against a country slightly higher in the European rankings. Finland is ranked 22nd and Slovakia 14th.
According to Finland’s head coach Nikolas Buser, the result of the opening match should not be given too much importance, but should be seen as a learning experience for other matches in the first series.
According to him, Finland’s opportunity lies especially in the passing game. Through strong starts, it is possible to keep Slovakia’s hard hitters away from the net.
– Slovakia is a very good team, whose big strength is the scope of the material. Even their starting seven is hard to predict in many respects, but we have to be ready for a hard game, Buser said In the volleyball association’s bulletin.
In total, the teams have met 13 times, of which the victories are 4–9 for Slovakia. The last meeting between the teams was over two years ago, and Finland’s previous victory was in August 2019.
