On Wednesday, it became clear that host nation Australia will be Sweden’s opponent in the WC bronze medal match on Saturday. Thus, it will be a blue-and-yellow showdown on the coaches’ benches when the national team captains Peter Gerhardsson and Tony Gustavsson make up.

Australia suffered a very tough defeat against England in the World Cup semi-final in front of a fanatical home crowd of nearly 76,000. After the final whistle, there were therefore very strong emotions on the grass for everyone.

Gustavsson’s words
It will be an extra interesting clash that awaits in the bronze match and the tactical battle between Gustavsson and Gerhardsson. Both of whom will do everything not to go home empty-handed and who know each other well.
– Yes, I know Peter and the Swedish team, but we have also met each other many times. So there will be two teams that know each other well. Then you get to check on teammates in between, that players play with and against each other on a daily basis, mainly in the women’s league and England. It will be an interesting match, Gustavsson admits to Sportbladet.
– To be honest, I had hoped for a final, both for us and Sweden.

But Tony Gustavsson also wants to point out a clear advantage for Sweden in the fight for the WC bronze. Which gives the Swedes a decisive advantage before the showdown on Saturday.
– Sweden has a 24-hour advantage over us in terms of recovery, which can play a big role in the match, says Australia’s national team captain in the interview.
