LoL: New skin should only be available via Gacha system and cost up to 200 €

Riot Games always tries to work on the monetary screw with League of Legends. New RP prices, Battle Passes and Co. have been introduced in recent years. They also go back to the skins from time to time. However, a leak now suggests a gacha system there, and players are not pleased.

What do the leaks say? New Cosmic skins are coming to League of Legends in the next patch. The champion Jhin, who already has such a skin, should get a new version of his skin as part of the patch. But you cannot buy the “Dark Cosmic Erasure Jhin” regularly.

According to Twitter user Julex_Gameplays, you can only get the skin if you pull it out of a Cosmic 2023 Capsule. A classic gacha system that has never existed in LoL before. In TFT, on the other hand, Riot introduced this system a long time ago. The Mythic skins also have a similar random system thanks to the Mythic shards, but this can be targeted with the Battle Passes.

There are also some skins known as Pay2Win in the League community:

For €200, it’s guaranteed to be yours

Is it guaranteed to get the skin? However, Riot has built in a guarantee, because after 30 capsules have been opened you are guaranteed to receive the skin. You need 22,500 essences for this, which would cost you a whopping €200. At the moment this system is only available on the PBE and not on the live server.

How is the community reacting to this? Under a post on Reddit by williamis3, the players discuss the new system and move between frustration and cynicism.

  • QuackologistExpert: Are they serious? They really need the money, huh…
  • radiatione: Riot already uses gacha in other games. It’s just that LoL is old and difficult to introduce changes that are worse for players, and LoL has a vocal and active community.
  • KKilikk: Meanwhile, China has these bonus chromas as part of their disgusting gacha model, which is even worse than this new loot milestone junk.
  • In China, the system seems to exist much worse. Many users are also not surprised that Riot acts in this way. Especially considering that Legends of Runterra and TFT have a similar system.

We will see in 2 weeks at the latest whether the system will go through like this after players complained on many platforms. With such monetary changes, Riot usually does not allow himself to be spoken to. What do you think of the possible new gacha system? Tell us in the comments.
