The province of Utrecht expects that ultimately not three, but eight to ten municipalities will have achieved the target over the first six months. This is due to late administrative processing between the COA figures and the final figures. “We see that Utrecht municipalities are making efforts to achieve the agreed numbers, including through (research into) flexible housing projects and by making smarter use of the existing housing stock,” says the province.
The province enters into official and administrative talks with municipalities that are lagging behind. In case of increasing arrears, municipalities must draw up an improvement process. If all this fails, the province can, in extreme cases, take over the housing task and use the possibilities and resources of the municipality concerned for this purpose. That is not the case at the moment.
