With the first Twilight film, a huge hype about the film adaptations of Stephenie Meyer’s books flared up. The sequel New Moon – Bis(s) zum Mittag, which will be shown on TV on Wednesday, was also a financial hit. However, the sequel was not well received by critics and the second Twilight film was even nominated in several categories at the anti-Oscar awards.
Twilight Sequel was up for four Golden Raspberries
In the plot of the Twilight sequel, Edward (Robert Pattinson) breaks up with Bella (Kristen Stewart) because the differences in the relationship are too great for him. Bella finds solace in Jacob (Taylor Lautner), who eventually turns out to be a werewolf. New conflicts and enemies put the relationships between all three to a life-threatening test.
At the time, New Moon was nominated in four categories at the Golden Raspberries awards: Robert Pattinson for Worst Supporting Actor, Kristen Stewart with either Pattinson or Lautner for Worst Screen Couple, the film for Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-off or Sequel, and the script as the worst script.
At this point, however, the negative attention could no longer harm the Twilight saga commercially. The five-film franchise has grossed over $3 billion at the worldwide box office, according to Box Office Mojo.
