Ulf Kristofferson on the Swedish billion aid to Ukraine

Sweden is sending a new support package to Ukraine – worth 3.4 billion.
It will be felt in the Swedish taxpayers’ wallets, according to TV4’s political commentator Ulf Kristofferson.
– It is about huge amounts, he says.

On Tuesday, the Swedish government proposed a new support package for Ukraine – worth 3.4 billion. At a press conference, Defense Minister Pål Jonson (M) announced that ammunition, artillery pieces and spare parts are to be sent to Ukraine to help in the war against Russia.

The Riksdag and the finance committee are expected to give the green light for the support package later this week.

Kristofferson: “Will be noticed in the wallet”

TV4’s political commentator Ulf Kristofferson says that the efforts to help Ukraine will be felt in Sweden.

– Now the total value of military equipment to Ukraine is over SEK 20 billion, and it will surely be even more in the future. If you make sure that the entire defense has a budget of 117 billion for next year, there are very large investments that will lead to the need to expand the defense budget further, he says.

– It will be the taxpayers who have to invest money in this. It will be felt in our wallets that we help Ukraine this much.

“Sweden has done a lot”

Kristofferson believes that politicians pay more attention to Swedish security and the protection of democracy than the large expenses.

– But it is clear, should the economy become even more difficult, sooner or later you have to think about how much you can afford. I don’t think you can see that we are there yet, he says.

The military support package is the thirteenth in the order.

– There is a strong conviction that one must stand up for Ukraine. Sweden has done a lot considering that we are a fairly small country. We have made great efforts, says Ulf Kristofferson.
