Heavy rain is expected to move in over Sweden from the south on Tuesday. SMHI has issued a yellow warning – the lowest of three levels – for torrential rain in an area south of a line between Gothenburg, Örebro and Nyköping.
– In southern parts of Götaland and south-eastern Svealand we have yellow warnings for torrential rain. It can affect traffic and cause flooding in basements and viaducts, says TV4 Nyhetern’s meteorologist Caroline Andersson.
Then sweep north
On Wednesday, the rain area is expected to move north. In Gävleborg county and Gavleån there is still a red warning for high water flows. Rain is expected in that area on Wednesday.
– It is still uncertain where the rain will come and how much it will be.
The heaviest rains seem to be moving even further up the country.
– There it looks like we can get up to 30 millimeters of rain in northern Sweden, where it rains the most.
Even in Norway, which has had major problems with heavy rain and high water levels, it looks like it will receive large amounts of rain during the day on Wednesday.
High pressure is expected closer to the weekend
The high pressure that many have been waiting for – with good chances of sun – is expected to arrive in southern Sweden on Thursday.
– The rain eases towards Thursday and it looks like high pressure is coming. But in northern Sweden it looks like there will still be some clouds and rain showers.
