Take a position on the issue of Jomshof

On Monday morning, the opposition announced that it wants to depose Richard Jomshof (SD), the chairman of the justice committee. Now voices are also being raised from the Liberals, where several members of the Riksdag support the demands of the red-greens. One of them is Anna Starbrink, who wants the party to take a position on the question of whether Jomshof should resign from his post.
– His behavior is not worthy of the assignment as committee chairman in Sweden’s Riksdag,
she says to Aftonbladet.

In order for the opposition to be able to get through its demand for Richard Jomshof’s resignation, at least one vote from the government side is required because the opposition is in the minority in the justice committee.

The Liberals are the party that most strongly criticized Jomshof’s statements, and now Anna Starbrink says that the party should take a position on the issue of his suitability as chairman – something she claims to have presented to the party leadership.

– I am not a member of the justice committee and will therefore not participate in the vote. I have previously expressed my personal opinion that Jomshof should leave the post as committee chairman. I still think so, she tells Aftonbladet.

More support the demand

Other liberal members of parliament have also now backed the demands of the red-greens. One of them is Joar Forssell, a member of the foreign affairs committee, who tells the newspaper that it “would be good for Sweden” if Jomshof leaves his post.

– Jomshof is unsuitable as chairman of the justice committee. It would be good for Sweden if Jomshof understood the damage he is causing to the trust in the justice committee and left his position, he says.

Member of Parliament Malin Danielsson (L) says that his behavior is inappropriate “not least in the security situation we are in”.

“An unsustainable situation”

In connection with a press conference on Monday morning, Gudrun Nordborg, the Left Party’s representative in the justice committee, said that she hopes more people understand what she describes as an unsustainable situation:

– We hope that there are also members from government parties who understand that this is an unsustainable situation. Jomshof has long been noticed for his negative attitude towards immigrants in general and towards Muslims in particular. This has not decreased since he was appointed chairman of the justice committee last autumn – on the contrary, it has increased.

Now the opposition seems to have been heard.

TV4 News is looking for Anna Starbrink.
