Sweden has reached the semi-finals in four consecutive championships.
A very impressive result for Peter Gerhardsson.
Now the team captain Kosovare Asllani pays tribute to the confederation captain in the best way.
Sweden has once again reached far in a major championship with the national team captain Peter Gerhardsson at the helm. He took over the Swedish women’s national team in 2017 and has since managed to lead Blågult to at least the semifinals in four consecutive tournaments.
Sweden’s success
First there was a bronze medal in the WC 2019, then silver in the Summer Olympics 2021, followed by a shared third place in the EC 2022 and now the medals are settled again during the WC 2023. That says a lot about Gerhardsson’s coaching qualities and apart from the fine results he has also put together a fantastic team cohesion among the national team players.

What a team captain Kosovar Asllani can certainly attest. She has gained a lot of trust from Gerhardsson in recent years and has grown into one of the major key players.

Asllani pays homage
For this championship, she has also been presented with the captain’s armband Caroline Segers absence from the field. Now she praises the coach highly and admits that he means a lot to her football career.
– Especially in the national team. Immediately when he took over, he gave me a role with an incredible amount of responsibility and placed me directly in the position that I like to play, says “Kosse” to SVT Sport.

Many of the national team players have grown under the national team captain Gerhardsson, who has taken Sweden back to the absolute top of the world again. But now Asllani really puts his finger on what Blågult’s successful coach does so well.
– What I like about Peter is that he wants us to take responsibility, make our own decisions and be brave. I like that kind of leadership, where you lead through actions, so I think he has done an incredible amount for this national team. It is also shown by how far we have gone in all the championships. He gives us great confidence and we love it, says Asllani in the TV interview.
