“I swore and was rude”

He has been the world’s best pole vaulter for a few years now.
But now Armand Duplantis reveals the great anger he had inside.
– I went too crazy. I swore and was rude, says “Mondo” in a TV4 documentary.

Today, we can say with strong conviction that Armand Duplantis is the world’s best pole vaulter. He is also well on his way to becoming the very best in the sport of all time.

Already at an early age, “Mondo” showed that he had an incredible talent for the sport and together with winning skulls, the bar quickly began to be raised to higher and higher heights. Even his mother Helena Duplantis has been a track and field athlete but now Armand admits that his mood at training scared his mother away.
– I wanted to be the best from the start. When I was younger it was mostly my dad who was with me when I pole vaulted, my mum didn’t like to watch me because she felt I was too much. I went too crazy, he says in the new TV4 documentary “Mondo Man”.

“It was chaos”

Duplantis had quite a temper at a young age and recalls his angry temper.
– I swore and was just rude. I got so angry, it was chaos. When I jumped, I had too much passion. I wanted to be the best. Get better after each training session and beat a new “pers” (record). I was just being dramatic, says Mondo in the documentary.

Helena Duplantis, who has specialized in being her son’s physical trainer, remembers her youth with horror.
– It was almost like this: #How can you have such a mood when things are going badly in the garden?”. But it was many times. I didn’t even want to be out there. He had such a temper and got so angry when he failed. I thought: “No, they can keep to themselves and scream out there. I go into the kitchen,” she says on TV4.

Today, Armand Duplantis can see the incredible success he got from hard work on the back end. The 23-year-old has already won all the gold that can be won in the form of the Olympics, World Championships and European Championships, as well as breaking a handful of world records during his career.
