Victory back in training – Jakobsson was over

During Saturday’s press conference, the day after Sweden’s quarter-final win against Japan, it was clear that Seger’s participation in the rest of the World Cup is uncertain.

— I dare not say it. Every day the chance increases, but it’s clear, it’s been x number of matches now since Argentina. So it will be tougher, said Sweden’s assistant confederation captain Magnus Wikman.

The Sweden captain has struggled with a foot in the months leading up to the championship and suffered a setback after starting the final group game against Argentina. In the round of 16 against the USA, she could have jumped in, but against Japan she was not available to play.

— But I hope that she can participate in one of these two matches that we have left, said Wikman on Saturday.

The fact that she was able to train with the rest of the team on Monday – at least during the opening quarter that was open to the media – in any case increases the possibilities.

However, another worry cloud appeared the day before the semi-final against Spain in Auckland. Striker Sofia Jakobsson, unlike Seger, was forced to sit out the last training session before Tuesday’s match.

— She has mild symptoms of illness and is being kept apart from the group as a safety measure, says Sweden’s press officer Fredrik Madestam.

However, the hope is that Jakobsson will be available for the match against Spain.
