Updating shared link rules on YouTube Shorts

YouTube is starting to take steps to ensure that creators and viewers can be found in a safer environment.

Its popularity skyrocketed with the arrival of YouTube Shorts. It has developed rapidly, especially as it allows creators to monetize their content. While there are many positive features that come with Shorts, negative aspects such as increased spam, spammy content, and scammers have also been seen. Fortunately, YouTube is aware of this situation.

The new YouTube Shorts update draws attention

According to the news shared in an article on the YouTube Help page, the new changes will begin later this month and will clearly override certain links shared to the platform.

This means that starting August 31st, links shared in YouTube Shorts comments, descriptions and vertical live stream will no longer be clickable. Also, YouTube plans to remove clickable social media icons from the channel banner on desktop. While August 31st has a start date, this change will be implemented gradually and seamlessly.

A safer YouTube Shorts experience

While these changes may seem small, they can have a huge impact on creators. In addition to these changes, YouTube is adding clickable links to mobile and desktop creator channel profiles.

YouTube states that creators can share websites, social profiles, and more here. While not yet implemented, YouTube will also introduce a new way for creators to direct their viewers to longer content. For now, the plan is to offer this feature by the end of September.

Of course, this is just the beginning and the platform will still continue to evolve. This will provide the ability to introduce new features and rules to protect creators and viewers. For now, viewers can continue to enjoy their favorite content using YouTube. For content producers, there is a possibility that there will be a transition period in terms of links and how they are shared.
