Suncor’s Sarnia site is an 85,000-barrel-a-day refinery located on the St. Clair Parkway using mostly Western Canadian oil to make gasoline, kerosene, jet and diesel fuels, asphalt and petrochemical feedstock, according to the company’s website.

“Our first priority is always for the safety of our employees, community members, and the environment, and we are making notifications to the appropriate parties to ensure this response has the necessary support,” the company said.

“As part of this response, community members may notice increased activity around the docks.”

The Sarnia Refinery, which began operating in 1952, has about 500 employees and contractors onsite, the company said.
