(Tiper Stock Exchange) – Last May, the balance of Italy’s tourism balance of payments was found to be in surplus of 2.3 billion eurosa slight increase compared to the same month in 2022 (2.0 billion) and 2019 (2.1 billion).
The Bank of Italy notes this by commenting on its own “Statistics on International Tourism in Italy” for the month of May from which it emerges that both the expenditure of foreign travelers in Italy (4.7 billion) and that of Italian travelers abroad (2.4 billion) recorded an increase, respectively of 20 and 25 percent, compared to the corresponding month last year.
Average for the three months ending in May 2023 spending by foreigners in Italy increased by 25 percent compared to the previous year and that by Italians abroad by 32 percent.
In comparison with the period preceding the pandemic, both flows continue to stand in nominal terms at levels higher than those observed in the three months ending in May 2019, respectively by 12 percent for incoming and 20 percent for outgoing.
