The emergency services received a report of a person in the water around 6:10 p.m. A spokesman for the Security Region (VRU) said that bystanders said they saw the man go into the water, but that he did not resurface. The fire brigade and police therefore quickly turned out and the lock at the Kanaalweg was closed.
