During the summer, heat waves and heavy downpours have ravaged several places around the world. Heavy forest fires are raging in Hawaii and recently Beijing has had the worst rainy weather since measurements began 140 years ago. After storm Hans swept across the Nordic region, many people were affected in Sweden. The large amounts of rain have, among other things, resulted in floods, power outages, blocked traffic, collapsed roads, fallen trees, water damage and canceled trips.
Is the storm Hans just the beginning of what lies ahead? Which areas will be hit the hardest? And how prepared is Sweden for extreme weather?
Guest: Markku Rummukainen, professor of climatology at Lund University, climate advisor at SMHI and Sweden’s representative for IPCC, the UN’s climate panel.
Program manager: Ellen Lundström.
