In 2022, the Finnish action film Sisu – Revenge is Sweet was screened at festivals. There it was already indicated that he had what it takes to be a surprise hit. At Moviepilot, Sisu got a very good 6.6 rating, at Amazon the Blu-ray was sold out even before the official start of sales. You can still get them at Saturn * and MediaMarkt *.
After the international success of the genre insider tip, the question naturally arises: (How) Will Sisu continue? The director has already talked about his idea for a sequel, and it’s in the classic tradition of one-man armies like Rambo and John Wick.
Revenge Hunt in World War II: What is Sisu About?
Sisu – revenge is sweet is set in Finland in 1944, at the height of World War II. However, the quiet Aatami Korpi (Jorma Tommila) has turned his back on the war and, after years of searching in Lapland soil, finds a vein of gold. Unfortunately, on his way through the wilderness he meets a company of German soldiers who take the gold from him.
More on the subject:
But the Nazis and their brutal SS leader didn’t count on Aatami’s survival skills. He is now doing everything he can to get his treasure back. The violence takes on extremely rough features. Her production remains painfully realistic right up to the over-the-top end.
How should Sisu continue? This is what the director says about his own John Wick
Spoilers now follow: Jalmari Helander (Rare Exports) is the director of Sisu. In May, he spoke to Games Radar about a possible sequel. He practically built his idea for the sequel into the first part: Aatami’s main motivation is gold. “That was the biggest challenge when I was writing the script, I didn’t know if the gold would make him happy.”
Aatami exchanges his gold for money at a bank in Helsinki at the end of the film. Is he happy? Hard to say.
It would be interesting to see what happens to him when he has all the money in the world. I’m pretty sure it won’t make him happy.
When we look at related characters like Rambo and John Wick, we find:
A one man army never stops being a one man army. Whether through personal motivation, assignments that only they can complete, or out of sheer habit, these fighting machines are drawn into bloody clashes again and again.
“Maybe needs
again
someone his skills”, said Helander about Aatami. No matter what happens in the end, if all goes well, a new John Wick-style action series, Sisu, has been born. Sisu 2 is not officially in the works yet.
