An aircraft belonging to Brussels Airlines had to turn around on its way to Bromma Airport in Stockholm due to an engine failure, reports the Belgian aviation site Aviation 24.

The plane, an Airbus A319, took off from Zaventem in Brussels on Thursday morning but ran into problems after about 45 minutes. After circling over Antwerp, the pilot decided to turn back.

A fault in one engine was the cause, according to Aviation 24. As the systems were otherwise functioning, the pilot did not make an emergency call, mayday, but the emergency services were still put on alert at Brussels airport.

“The fire department was present as a safety measure as per routine. The plane landed safely around 10:50 a.m.,” says Joëlle Neeb, spokesperson for the airline, for the site.

The incident meant that the return departure from Bromma at 12.50 was cancelled.
