Google Pixel Watch 2 will be introduced in October with new features

While Google is expected to introduce the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro in October, it will also introduce the Pixel Watch 2.

According to Android Authority, a new chipset will be used for the new watch model. The Exynos 9110 SoC, which was used in the first generation Pixel Watch, was introduced in 2018, and the same chipset was also used in the first Galaxy Watch years ago. However, according to the report, this chipset will be replaced by the Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 in Pixel Watch 2.

Google Pixel Watch 2 will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 chipset

The Samsung chipset had two Arm Cortex-A53 cores running at 1.15GHz. The Snapdragon chipset consists of four cores running at 1.7GHz. Also, the GPU in the Snapdragon wearable chipset offers a huge improvement over the GPU used in the Exynos chipset.

Besides that, the Exynos 9110 was built using Samsung Foundry’s 10nm process node. The Snapdragon W5 is built using a 4nm process node. Performance and energy efficiency will increase significantly. Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 will offer better battery life by supporting power-saving features like Low Power and Standby. The Pixel Watch 2’s battery capacity will be 306mAh (typical), which is a 4.1% increase compared to the 294mAh battery of the original Pixel Watch.

It will have an ultra-wideband chip

Pixel Watch 2 will also have an Ultra Wideband (UWB) chip. This can be used in Google’s upcoming Find My Place device tracking system to help pinpoint the exact location of a lost item. UWB may also allow Pixel Watch 2 to be used as a digital car key.

The Pixel Watch 2 will come with Wear OS 4 pre-installed and is expected to feature the large bezel design that has been criticized by users. This year, a 1.2-inch diameter circular OLED screen will be provided by Samsung Display with a resolution of 384 x 384. The screen in the original model came from BOE. Also, Pixel Watch 2 is expected to be the first smartwatch to run software updates in the background while users continue to use the device.
