“ There is a great risk that there will be no more Ukrainian culture. 28 years ago, Vlad Troitskyi created his Dakh theater in his own apartment in the Ukrainian capital. Today, the director is 57 years old and prepares in the suburbs of Kiev for the battle against the Russian invasion and underlines the important mobilization of Ukrainian artists on the field of war.
Vlad Troitskyi is a prominent figure in Ukrainian creation in Kiev. He is also the founder of GogolFest, a multidisciplinary festival bringing together cinema, theater and music and Center of Contemporary Art DAKH. In 2015, he presented in France, at the Monfort Théâtre in Paris, The house of dogs. Two years ago, the theater man was with the Ukrainian group Les Dakh Daughters at the Festival d’Avignon. For his opera requiem Iyov (Hibo), he received in 2020 the highest cultural honor in Ukraine, the national Shevchenko prize.
” We sleep very badly. We hear the bombings. The situation is becoming more and more serious. There are several columns of Russian tanks arriving in Kiev. And there are many comedians and actors who are already registered in territorial defense and who are present on the front lines. But, there are also some who could not be registered, because there are too many volunteers and not enough weapons…
There is still a great risk that there will be no more Ukrainian culture, because what we are experiencing is an unequal struggle of David against Goliath. Ukraine is fighting and protecting the ideas and values of the civilized world. Today, we cannot lose this opportunity to destroy a monster, a new Hitler. We really need global support to win this unequal fight against a new plague in the 21st century. »
