An alarm about a man armed with a sword, on a tram in Gothenburg, was received by the police on Thursday morning. Shortly afterwards, the man was arrested, and is now handed over to care.
– The assessment is made that he suffers from a serious mental disorder and is a danger to himself and those around him, says Jens Andersson, press spokesperson, the police.
During Thursday morning, the police received a call about a man with a sword, on tram 7, towards Frölunda, in Gothenburg. Several patrols, including the task force, were called in and followed the tram.
After a few stations, the man got off the tram, and was arrested by the police at the bridge at Dag Hammarsköldsleden in central Gothenburg.
– The assessment is made that he suffers from a serious mental disorder and is a danger to himself and those around him. With the support of the law on compulsory psychiatric care, section 47, he was taken into custody temporarily, before he was handed over to a healthcare unit for support and assistance, says Jens Andersson, press spokesperson, the police.
According to Andersson, no one is physically injured and as far as he knows, the man did not express any verbal threats.
– But the situation as such is of course very unpleasant and threatening, he says.
