The action RPG Dark and Darker became a surprise hit on Steam in 2022 and delighted 2 million players. However, after allegations of plagiarism, the game suddenly disappeared. Now it’s finally going into Early Access, but for a German Twitch streamer it’s coming at exactly the wrong time.
What kind of game is this? Dark and Darker is a tough extraction game à la Escape from Tarkov, which uses a fantasy setting with magic instead of guns. After initial great success on Steam, serious allegations were leveled against the game and Valve took it off the platform.
In order to be able to go through with the playtest that had already been promised, the developers resorted to creative means that you probably last had to deal with in your youth. However, a better solution was needed for the release.
On August 7, 2023, Dark and Darker was finally able to start Early Access, but on its own and with some restrictions. You can find out more about this from the colleagues at GameStar. For a German Twitch streamer, however, the timing could hardly be worse.

What problem does the streamer have? For Wieland “Rumathra” Welte, alongside his buddy Trymacs, it’s all about survival. For the survival show 7 vs. Wild, they travel to Canada, where they have to endure two weeks in the wilderness.
That means: no gaming PC, no internet and therefore no dark and darker. On August 8, the Twitch streamer complained about his suffering on Twitter after he was at least able to watch the game the day before. The next day, the “last tweet before 7 vs. Wild” followed (via Twitter).
Rumathra will now have to be patient until he can dive back into the dark fantasy world. This also has advantages, as his colleague GermanLetsPlay emphasizes: “When you’re back, the first massive bugs will be fixed.”
But the Twitch streamer fears that the hot phase of the game could already be over by then, and that other content creators could have “ripped it off”. According to Rumathra, the Internet is very fast with something like this. In addition, he finds the feeling of the initial phase in such games the most beautiful.
While Rumathra misses the early days of Dark and Darker, one plans to really capitalize on 7 vs Wild. MontanaBlack said while he “don’t have the balls” to compete himself, he wants to use the format to his advantage from the safety of his home walls:
