The kitesurfer broke the Swedish height record – in the storm’s strong winds

Kitesurfer Per Pertoft from Ängelholm usually holds kitesurfing courses. But due to the storm Hans canceled the lessons and instead set out with his own board.

Then he broke a new Swedish record in kitesurfing jumps. He lifted off 27.6 meters above the surface. He knows the height thanks to a gauge attached to the board.

– I immediately felt that that was the biggest jump I had ever made.

The perfect storm

Bad weather is good for kitesurfing and Per tells us that the world record was broken on the same day, in Denmark, by professional kitesurfers who traveled there to surf in His strong winds. The new world record was set at just over 35 meters.

Unnecessary risk?

At the same time, Ängelholm municipality has warned against swimming during the storm.

Do you think you took an unnecessary risk?

– It is always a risk to go out into a storm. But I’ve been kiting for twelve years and have pretty good experience. So I would say it was quite a calculated risk.

In the clip you see when Per breaks the Swedish record in the middle of the storm Hans.
