There are only a few days left for the 15th BRICS leaders’ summit, which will be held on 22-24 August. The leaders of Brazil, India, China and South Africa will attend the BRICS summit to be held in South Africa.
ARREST SHOCK TO PUTIN!
According to the agreement between South Africa and Russia, Russian leader Putin, who has an arrest warrant, will not attend the BRICS summit. The reason is the arrest warrant issued against him.
The Hague-based international criminal court accused Putin of smuggling children from the occupied areas of Ukraine to Russia and issued an arrest warrant for the Russian leader.
South Africa, which is preparing to host the BRICS summit, poses a risk for Putin to be arrested in South Africa and sent to The Hague, as it is among the parties to the Treaty of Rome. Therefore, the first solution from the South African front was the withdrawal of the government from the international criminal court.
However, after a series of consultations, it was announced that Russian leader Putin would not attend the summit. It was decided that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Sergei Lavrov, would be present at the summit.
PUTIN DID NOT DANGER SOUTH AFRICA
In a statement made by South Africa, which was under pressure not to host Putin, it was stated that Foreign Minister Lavrov would represent Russia at the summit with mutual agreements. He said he didn’t want to cause trouble.
The BRICS leaders summit will be held in Johannesburg, South Africa, which is the current chairman of the group. On behalf of Russia, Lavrov will attend the conference, and Putin will be connected via video conference management.
