The trailer shows exactly the opposite

The first trailer of the new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is online. MeinMMO editor Maik is already fed up.

For a long time it was unclear whether Call of Duty would take a break after 17 years. No new premium CoD 2023 – the news went around the world in February 2022. At the time it was said that you only bring a big DLC with new content for Modern Warfare 2, the CoD of 2022.

It is now clear: Modern Warfare 3 will be released as a standalone game on November 10 this year.

A direct sequel to last year’s setting? That didn’t happen for a similar long time either, only in the early days when the CoDs still had numbers.

After the trailer I think: We still don’t get more than one DLC from CoD MW2. Because in almost 2 minutes you don’t see anything new: An old enemy and recycled content. But see for yourself:

What is the problem? These things that Call of Duty shows for MW3 are exactly the things that I was already looking forward to for CoD MW2.

The villain Makarov was featured at the end of MW2’s campaign. The developers previously said they would continue the story of the campaign in Warzone and with the raids. For me that meant: Makarov in Action: The worst villain in the series turns up the heat.

In addition, it was already a foregone conclusion at the time of Warzone 1 that the “Verdansk” map would return at some point. Many players demanded the return with Warzone 2, but they got the unloved Al Mazrah. So far it is only certain that the map will come to Warzone: Mobile.

Now the trailer suddenly shows the content that should have long since arrived at CoD MW2 and Warzone: Makarov and Verdansk.

In addition, the first glimpse into the gameplay is not fun either, because the well-known mission patterns are apparently being used again:

  • Panic in a busy area
  • vertical mission
  • Dive
  • Night mission after crash
  • Only one sniper mission was missing from the trailer. We may have seen them though: the scene with the silenced gun at night looked very suspicious.

The more info there is, the more I believe we’re actually only getting one DLC of MW2. So you can take the skins of MW2 in MW3 and if you believe the leaks, the multiplayer should contain many map remakes. More recycling is hardly possible.

Over the years, I’ve learned not to take Call of Duty so seriously and to appreciate it as a nice casual shooter. But even I get what lousy things the franchise has pulled off in recent years.

Maybe I wouldn’t be quite so pessimistic if the current generation were a bit better. But with Warzone and Modern Warfare, Pay2Win is becoming an increasingly important topic. They’ve definitely lost a fan as a result.
