The dark side of the record year: Drunkenness and violence at Boat Week in Öregrund

Police say the event was intense. During the week, several crimes were reported, 11 cases of assault, three sexual crimes, four drunk driving, several drug crimes, vandalism, illegal use of jet skis and drunkenness at sea.

In addition to that, the police took 23 people into custody for drunkenness and over 20 people had to leave the scene after disorderly conduct. Something else that also stood out was youth drunkenness.

60 pub visits – several flaws

During the week, the police visited up to 60 pub visits, which resulted in around ten supervisory reports on deficiencies. Among other things, there was a high level of intoxication, that they exceeded the number of guests and serving alcohol to minors.

– The festival has had record attendance this year and it has also been noticed in Öregrund in general. Overall, there has also been a higher degree of intoxication among the visitors than in previous years, preferably during evenings and nights. A decisive factor in many of the crimes that took place is unfortunately the high level of intoxication, says Robert Sverlert, police operations manager for the boat week, in a press release.

John Strand from Strandgruppen event, who is the organizer of the boat week, says that no crimes are acceptable and that they are working to make the event even better.
