Wind turbines on fire on Gotland

– I myself don’t know what has happened, but an engine in the power plant is on fire. Parts fall from it, so we have cordoned off the area, monitor and extinguish what falls down, says the line operator at Rescue Center Mitt.

The pictures show a clear flame and heavy black smoke.

– It is lucky that it has rained, says Clas Dahlén, who lives near the fire.

The wind turbine is said to be 50-100 meters high, which means that the rescue service cannot get up to the fire. They will therefore let the power plant burn down, says Fredrik Mauritzon at Räddningscentral Mitt.

– We have some small ground fires that we are taking care of, so we will work here until 1 p.m., according to the original forecast, says Henrik Jynnesjös, commanding officer at the rescue center Mitt.

According to the rescue service, a wing has come off and there are risks with being in the vicinity of the wind power. It is still unclear how the fire started.

No one is said to have been injured in connection with the fire.
