Man shot to death in Emporia – now the trial begins

Last year, a 31-year-old man was shot dead in the Emporia shopping center in Malmö by a 16-year-old boy.
Today, almost a year later, the trial begins.

It was in the middle of people on Friday afternoon, August 19 last year, that the boy fired several shots in what the police suspect was a planned and instigated murder. Today is the first of six trial days.

– He admits that he is the one who shot and he also realizes that this means that other people could have been injured, says Johan Fernvall, the 16-year-old’s lawyer.

The trial itself will be held behind closed doors, partly because of the perpetrator’s young age, but also because the preliminary investigation is still ongoing against those suspected of having instigated the murder.

A woman passing by was injured

The 16-year-old is also charged with, among other things, three cases of attempted murder. One of the cases concerns a woman who happened to be in the path of one of the shots. Due to the fact that so many people were at the scene of the murder, he is also charged with causing danger to another. There are eight plaintiffs who the court believes were exposed to “danger of life or danger of serious bodily injury”.

In addition, the 16-year-old is charged with serious weapons offenses and minor drug offences.

Leading figure in the gang environment

The 31-year-old who was shot dead was already known to the police and has been suspected of both murder and having ordered an explosion. According to South Sweden could it have been a power struggle within a gang in Malmö where the 31-year-old was a leading figure with a price on his head.

TV4 Nyheterna has sought prosecutor Michelle Stein, who does not want to make any statements during the ongoing trial.
