Recently, Dwayne Johnson has attracted attention after donating a seven-figure sum to those on strike in the current Hollywood crisis. Nevertheless, the star does not seem to let go of his biggest film defeat to date.
In a recent conversation with Kevin Hart, The Rock revisited why Black Adam 2 will not be. Black Adam’s financial failure has nothing to do with it, according to Johnson.
Dwayne Johnson blames new DC leadership for Black Adam 2 failure
In a clip from Johnson and Hart’s interview, the Black Adam lead actor talks about the failed DC blockbuster sequel with the the studio’s new film executive in the form of James Gunn and Peter Safran. The star embellishes his reasoning with a sports comparison:
It’s like a new owner buying an NFL team and saying, ‘Okay. Not my head coach. Not my quarterback. It doesn’t matter how many times we’ve won the Super Bowl. It doesn’t matter how many rings we have. I’m going with someone else.’

That Black Adam with a budget of a good 200 million dollars, according to Box Office Mojo, only grossed almost 400 million dollars worldwide and thus as big financial disappointment with a forecast loss of up to $100 million, probably doesn’t matter to Dwayne Johnson.
What’s next for DC?
With Blue Beetle and Aquaman 2, the last two films of the “old” DC universe will start in cinemas this year. After this, the franchise is rebooted by Gunn and Safran. The duo’s plan was already revealed with the first films and series. This includes, among other things, a new Superman blockbuster without Henry Cavill with Gunn directing.
