Robert Helenius told Urheilu after his match on Saturday that he will continue his career and possibly wants to pursue the heavyweight world championship.
Heavyweight Robert Helenius faced a relatively inexperienced team in Savonlinna on Saturday Mika Mielonen. Mielosen now has seven professional matches behind him, Helenius 36.
Helenius won the match in Olavinlinna with a technical knockout in the third round. In the situation, Mielonen hit to the left and tried to attack, but Helenius managed to hit the opponent with a decisive blow in the ear.
– The match was in control the whole time and in the third round I was able to hit him with a really hard right. Then his legs started shaking so much that the referee had to intervene to make sure it wasn’t bad, Helenius described the decisive moments of the match.
Helenius competed in Finland for the first time in five years. In the professional ring, Helenius fought a Finnish boxer for the first time.

Saturday’s match confirmed for Helenius that his career as a professional boxer will continue.
For now, Helenius cannot say where and when the next career match might be. However, there may be news soon.
– We’ll see. It can come very quickly. All kinds of hooks are pending at the moment, Helenius told Urheilu after Saturday’s match.
Still “good feelings” about the WC dream
The world championship is still a dream for Helenius, 39. The last time dreams of a World Championship belt came true was in October 2022, when the former world champion, the United States Deontay Wilderknocked out Helenius in the first round of the match in New York.
The continuation of Helenius’ career has been a question mark since the meeting with Wilder, and he himself has not been sure where the aim is.

Saturday’s result in Savonlinna shows Helenius that he has the strength and desire to continue chasing his dream.
– I want to continue and maybe even try for the world championship. I haven’t decided it 100% yet, but the feelings are good.
– I like the adrenaline rush that comes when you get into the boxing ring. I like boxing, says Helenius.
Savonlinna reminded us of the beauty of boxing
The match in Savonlinna was much more important to the heavyweight, who had seen a lot, than he had previously thought.
– When I arrived on the spot for the match, the feeling was confirmed that now we are getting serious again.
During the past seven months, Helenius has been training mainly in the gym and without even thinking about boxing.
– I have taken a complete day off from boxing, so it always takes a while to get back to the feeling I had when there were matches, Helenius described.
At last, Saturday’s match rekindled the flame. After the match, Helenius also said that he hoped for more matches in his home country.
– I don’t know if it’s possible, but of course it would be great to compete in Finland. Then I can organize training camps in Finland and be at home. Everything works in Finland and it’s best to be in Finland.
