Kalle Rovanperä’s car cannot be fixed by Saturday, so the reigning world champion will no longer be seen in the Jyväskylä World Rally Championship. Rovanperä drove out in the eighth special test.
Kalle Rovanperän The World Rally Championship in Jyväskylä is officially over, Rovanperä team Toyota says in a press release.
Rovanperä’s name was already on Saturday’s start list, and the jury’s decision extended the service time of Rovanperä’s car by an hour. The Toyota garage says that the damage to the car is too great to repair, and neither Rovanperä nor the kart Jonne Halttus to see again on the roads of Jyväskylä.
“Unfortunately, during the maintenance of car number 69, it has been determined that the damage to the frame is too great to be repaired and we have to withdraw from the race,” says the press release published by the team.
Rovanperä’s car went on its roof at the Myhinpää special test. Rovanperä managed to drive five bottom times in a row before crashing his car from the top spot. Rovanperä and Halttunen survived without major injuries.
The reigning world champion described that going to the top feels a little on the side.
– That’s how hard it fell on the road. I’m going to shoot now. Let’s make sure everything is okay. Then you can drive if you feel like it, said Rovanperä in the service park.
