Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayham and They Cloned Tyrone are two must-sees when it comes to movies, according to Viktor Jerner.
The film about the well-known turtles Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello and Michelangelo premiered in theaters this week, and even though you may not belong to the target audience, it is definitely a watchable film that he gives three suns out of a possible five.
– Now we have a new film where the mythology is quite intact – we have the four abandoned turtles who live in the sewers of New York and get some kind of radioactive bug that makes them become these crime-fighting ninja masters, he says.
– A lot of animation goes towards the photo-realistic, and this almost looks like an oil painting meets some kind of chalk drawing. They also embrace this mutant aspect, the slightly creepy and grotesque, of these mutated megabeasts.
“Bizarre humor and suspense”
The movie They cloned Tyrone, which can be seen on Netflix, is further about an unlikely trio who investigate a mysterious conspiracy, gets another sun from the movie lover.
– It got lost a little in the ‘Barbenheimer noise’, which is sad because it is a very nice film with a lot of bizarre humor and tension. It’s a mix of films like Shaft and Foxy Brown and classic sci-fi, you could say, says Viktor Jerner.
As for TV series, he suggests the second season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, which can be seen on Tele2 Play, where you can follow the crew aboard the spaceship USS Enterprise led by Captain Christopher Pike.
– A lot of sci-fi tends to be dystopian and dark, but Star Trek is generally very optimistic, inclusive and life-affirming. If you want the kind of sci-fi, which I think is needed now, then you should see Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. It also gets four suns.
Five suns to The Bear
But among the best in the range of series right now is clearly the second season of The Bear, which can be streamed on Disney+ and which became a bit of a sensation in connection with the first season, says Viktor Jerner.
– Then we met Chef Carmy, who returned to Chicago after his brother suddenly passed away to take over his fallen chin. The first season was very much about the rowdy personalities in the kitchen and how to turn this team around. In season two, he has completely new challenges with trying to create a new restaurant concept in the fight against the clock, he says.
– It’s exactly five suns – I love this series. It is well written, moving and you feel for these people.
That the series also revolves around food is just a plus.
– It’s food porn through and through.
