Activision has announced that it has banned more than 14,000 cheaters from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone in its latest ban wave.
Cheaters have been one of the big problems in many games. There is a long-standing stream of cheaters, especially for Call of Duty games. Activision aims to build and improve the Ricochet anti-cheat system to mitigate the cheater problem, and recent updates show that efforts are headed in the right direction.
The Ricochet system and its successes in combating cheaters
It’s no secret that Activision has increased its internal anti-cheat mechanisms to improve the gaming experience in a number of the company’s games. Some of his recent efforts have turned into interesting applications around the Ricochet system. Another feature added to the Ricochet system added a damage shield to players when fraudulent activity was detected. Thus, it was made that the cheaters would not do critical damage. Of course, with regular tweaks the system meant more rogue players were caught more often.
New updates will be made
Activision stated that it has banned 14,000 accounts cheating in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone games. While not as big as the period when it banned 90,000 cheaters, the updated Ricochet system is notable for detecting 14,000 cheaters within 24 hours. As Activision prepares for the big Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone Season 5 update, the possibility that similar ban waves may occur in the coming days is also being evaluated.
These bans aren’t much of a surprise considering the studio has added some notable features to the Ricochet anti-cheat system over the past few months. For example, a tool called “Replay Investigation” has been added, which allows the team to identify and examine cheating behavior in all multiplayer modes of the game.
Continues to evolve for Activision Season 5
It is always unclear how effective these practices will be in the long run, due to the risk of unfairly banning players who play fraudulently. Of course, Activision will be looking to improve things even further when promoting upcoming Season 5 content.
